Commission Guide

Notes from the Conservator

Every wonderful Artifact starts with a spark of inspiration.

I. Tell Us What You Imagine

Share the feeling, story, colors, approximate size, and place your Artifact will live. A budget, hoped-for date, or inspiration image is welcome.

II. A Thoughtful Conversation

The Conservator considers what is possible, then discusses materials, scale, artistic direction, timing, and an estimated price.

III. A Written Proposal

Before work begins, we agree on the design direction, estimated schedule, payment arrangements, and delivery details in writing.

IV. Into the Workroom

Each Artifact is created by hand. Progress glimpses may be shared as the piece takes shape, with room for the Conservator’s artistic judgment.

V. The Final Reveal

When the work is complete, we share its final photographs, settle the balance, and arrange its careful journey to its Keeper.

The best commissions leave a little room for wonder.

A Few Gentle Rules

Practical understandings

A clear understanding gives imagination room to flourish.

I. An Original Work

A commission is an interpretation in the Conservator’s style. Exact copies of earlier Artifacts or another artist’s designs are not offered.

II. Time & Patience

Completion dates are estimates, shaped by complexity, materials, and studio schedules. Meaningful changes will be communicated.

III. Prices & Deposits

The quote reflects size, labor, and materials. Deposit, refund terms, and payment milestones are specified in the proposal.

IV. Changes & Cancellations

Please bring up changes and issues right away. Adjustments after approval may affect cost or timing; cancellation terms are agreed before work starts.

V. Purpose & Care

Let us know if the piece must hold water, touch food, endure heat, or live outdoors. Suitability will be confirmed in advance.

VI. Delivery & Privacy

Packing and shipping costs are agreed in advance. Finished work may be photographed for our records; privacy requests are welcome.
